What are the ingredients of cement
Ingredients Of cement
Ordinary Portland cement OPC is composed of Following material
- Lime Calcium oxide (Cao) 60-65%
- Silica silica Oxide SiO 2 17-25%
- Alumina Oxide Al2O3 3-8%
- Iron Oxide ferrous oxide Fe₂O₃ 0.5-6%
- Magnesia- Magnesium oxide MgO 0.1-4%
- Soda + Potash Na2O + K2O 0.2-1%
- Sulphur oxide SO3 1-2.75 %
- Free lime 1%
Ingredients Of cement
- lime
- silica
- alumina
- iron oxide
- magnesia
- sulphur trioxide
- soda and potash
- Gypsum or calcium sulphate
- The magnesium oxide and sulphur dioxide when added in excess quantity makes the cement unsound.
- In order to provide colour, hardness and strength to the cement, the ingredient used is iron oxide
- The proportion of lime, silica, alumina and iron oxide in a good Portland cement should be 63 : 22 : 6 : 3
- Argillaceous materials contain alumina
- The gypsum is added to the cement for controlling the initial setting time of cement
- Which of the following ingredient of cement when added in excess quantity, causes the cement to set slowly silica
- The presence of lime in cement provides strength to the cement
- The chemical ingredient of cement which provides quick setting property to the cement is alumina
